"Keleti Station" Budapest Transportation Tip by GentleSpirit

Budapest Transportation: 564 reviews and 611 photos

Keleti is the cavernous train station that handles most of the international trains. The one time I was there was very early in the morning to catch an early (5am) train to Prague. At that time of morning nothing was open. I managed to get a quick sandwich (szendvic) and some coffee from one of the vendors that was just opening his shop for the day.

As Keleti was the starting point for that train it was perfectly on time and trouble free

From what I have read and keep reading the Budapest train stations are not considered to be up to western standards in terms of facilities (or cleanliness) and you are warned to be mindful of your belongings (which you should be doing anyway!!). I personally didn't have any problem at all (maybe it was too early for the pickpockets to come out, i dont know)

I didnt mind the station at all apart from smoking in restaurant. I was there late night and things were starting to close.
