"Number 1 in the guide books" World's Oldest Vine Tip by christine.j

World's Oldest Vine, Maribor: 10 reviews and 16 photos

I've read all guide books I could get , checking what they said about Maribor. They all agreed on three special sights there.

The first is the oldest vine in the world. More than 400 years old it is still carrying grapes each year. There is museum which explains about the vineyards and the wine making process in Slovenia.

Even better, you can do some wine tasting and buy some wine. Needless to say, that's what I did. The staff there is very friendly and helpful, speaking several languages.

You can also get free city maps there, buy postcards and the necessary stamps ( this saves waiting in the queue in the post office) and good chocolate.

Some of the older guideboks mentioned a restaurant associated to the museum, but when I asked about it I was told it had closed several years ago.
