Tuesday, July 5th 2011, we attended the official anniversary ceremony of Bima regency, followed by horse racing on July 6th through 11th. There were other festivities on the days leading up to the anniversary.
At the invitation of Mr Nurdin of the Tourist Office we took part in the Community Walk on Sunday the 3rd in the morning. Such a walk, called Jalan Santai, is a popular event all over Indonesia. In this case most participants were government employees or in another way related to the government.
We were early at the venue, the airport south of Bima. But the actual start of the walk was at 7:30am. It took one hour to walk at a leasurely pace along the road bordering Bima bay to the finish at the Water Park. Free refreshments were handed out there, and we found out that there was more to the program. A lottery for so-called 'door prizes' took up the next three hours. Prizes ranged from simple things like towels to a laptop, two cross-bikes and two motorbikes.
Where: Bima town, Sumbawa island.
When: See next tip: Bima cultural parade.
