"The Minor Road To Newcastleton" Langholm Things to Do Tip by nickandchris
Langholm Things to Do: 5 reviews and 9 photos
This is a very scenic but in parts bleak, route from Langholm to Newcastleton in the Borders. It is a single track fell road with passing places and marvellous open views. The first part out of Langholm is steep, as is the road at the other end, into Newcastleton but after that, the road just undulates easily over the fells and moorland.
The first time we did this route, we were in our motorhome and it was a glorious summers day. This time, we travelled in a 4x4 and the weather was the opposite, rather cool, to put it bluntly. The mist came down at times, showing us how bleak it could be in these parts.
There are not too many places to pull off the road other than passing places. I do remember there were a few places by the cattle grid and also a pleasant grassy area where we over-nighted in the summer.
Address: Langholm, Dumfries and Galloway.
