"Bima cultural parade" Bima Things to Do Tip by theo1006
Bima Things to Do: 27 reviews and 106 photos
Tuesday, July 5th 2011, we attended the official anniversary ceremony of Bima regency, followed by horse racing on July 6th through 11th. There were other festivities on the days leading up to the anniversary.
Sunday the 3rd in the afternoon we took part in the Cultural Parade. Such a parade is a popular event all over Indonesia when there is something to celebrate. Any group or individual who feels like it, may take part, preferably dressed up for the occasion.
In this parade we saw groups from schools and from government offices as well as villagers in allegorical outfit: farmers, fishermen, housewives. Some used wheels, but most walked the designated route from one end of the village to the other.
Sometimes the parade was happily chaotic, because traffic had not been diverted.
It was a great opportunity for making photo's because literally everyone was keen on having their picture taken.
Where: Every year a different village is chosen to host the parade. The one we attended was in Woha district, at half an hour's drive from Bima town.
When: The first week of July. To be certain of the date, contact the Tourist Office of Bima Regency, phone: +62.374.44331, email: Dispar@bimaKab.go.id. Or call the Director of the Office, mr. H. Nurdin, SH. , mobile +62.813 3956 6608.
