Tokoname thrived as the town of ship dealers during 17th to late 19th century. They traded the products to Edo(Tokyo) and in return. The house was built around 1850 when Takita family started ship dealing business in Tokoname (the main house was recently renovated). It consists of the Main House, which displays Karakuri Giemon Mujin-to, a rapseed oil lamp, the model of Be(n)zaisen ship, a typical wooden, single-mast vessel which can carry up to 800 koku (150 metric tons) of rice, the detached house and the storehouse.
