Dating to the 4th century, the Valens Aqueduct – completed in the reign of Emperor Valens – was part of a water distribution system bringing water across from the 4th to the 3rd Hills. The total length of the ancient water system totaled some 250 km/155 miles. The aqueduct was still in use until the end of the 19th century reinforced during the Ottoman times with iron piping. Today, the Aqueduct provides atmosphere.
