Whilst in London during "OPEN HOUSE" September 17th and 18th 2011, I was lucky enough to go inside the Royal Ballet school.
We were given a tour around the building and given information on what was expected of the students both artistically and academically.
The students have a different colour tutu for each year they are at the school. They have to look after thier tutu's and return them to a stand after each lesson. There are a team of people who look after the dance clothes, they make them, wash, dry, iron and mend them.
The students also have academic lessons like all other students and they have a high rate of success in thier exams.
It was a really interesting tour and a beautiful building. The rooms were very well lit with natural sunlight with the dance studios set on numerous floors.
The school was founded in 1926 by Dame Ninette de Valois. The royal charter was granted in October 1956. The school has been in this building since January 2003.
