"Avoid crunch times for accommodation on Rotto" Rottnest Island Warnings Or Dangers Tip by CatherineReichardt

Rottnest Island Warnings and Dangers: 8 reviews and 16 photos

Family holidays on Rotto are a Perth institution, but bear in mind that the Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) accommodation has a maximum capacity of less than 3,000 beds: if you consider that the island gets half a million tourists per year, it's not hard to see why RIA accomodation is in great demand, particularly over peak periods such as Christmas, Easter and 'schoolies'.

Many families book the same week year in, year out, making their reservation for the following year as soon as they return. For this reason, accommodation on the island is at a particular premium over the school holidays, so make sure that you take this into account if you're planning a visit and would like to stay overnight. For more information on school terms in Western Australia, follow the link below.

Similarly, the time of year that I would recommend that you give Rotto a wide berth is the 'schoolies' (more formally known as 'Leavers' Week') in November, when all the school leavers who have just completed their final exams decamp to Rotto as a rite of passage to celebrate the end of their school career and the start of their adult lives - avoid at all costs!
