We walked to the Atomic Cellar museum as it was a flat walk along the street from our car park.
It was once used as a Beer Cellar, but in 1944, it was rented by Kaiser-Wilhelm.

Physicists had to leave Berlin during the WWII, and it was here at Haigerloch they came to work under the leadership of Professor Werner Heisenberg, on a last attempt at making a German nuclear reactor.

Amazing that this little Village holds quite a secret about WWII!

On 23 April 1945, American troops occupied the basement and demolished the entire plant.
Now, we were able to visit this important part of history and view replicas, documents, photos and other various exhibitions. There was an overview on what is happening today. We also saw a replica of a Nuclear Reactor.

The entry fee is small, as is the exhibition, and I do think Men would find it a lot more interesting than Women. At least, that was the case with us!

UPDATE
Since I was there in 2011, the Museum has been completely renewed and expanded. Now, next door in the OIL MILL, there is a permanent exhibition on the life and work of the famous physicist "Prof. Werner Heisenberg" put together on the occasion of his 100th birth anniversary.

A book and a DVD about the former events can be bought in the Museum shop.
