"Visit the Latin Bridge aka Latinska ćuprija" Sarajevo Things to Do Tip by gordonilla

Sadly, we reached the bridge well after dark; so we did not see it in it's full glory of daylight. It is an Ottoman bridge, and the term Latin comes as it crosses the river Mljacka into a catholic area of the old city.
It is also famous for being the location of the assassination of the Archduke Franz-Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip of the Black Hand and thus the start of a some what complicated series of Royal and Imperial family alliances across Europe which resulted in the start of the Great War of 1914-1918. The war to end all wars, was not in fact the last war - and we continue to see wars across the world.
