Forbidden City - The Palace Museum, Beijing: 475 reviews and 998 photos
After visiting the Imperial Garden. I continued to visit the halls and palaces on east side of Forbidden City. Palace of Gathered Elegance is one of the west palaces where the empresses and imperial concubines lived. On the north side of the hall is the Pavilion of Beautiful Scenery, Lijing Xuan, this was the place where Empress Cixi stayed when she was a concubine.
The Signboard was written as:
" Chu Xiu Gong was built in 1420 and rebuilt in 1655. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was the residence of Empress and Imperial concubines.
Ci Xi once lived here in 1852 when she was created honourable person Lan. She gave birth to the Emperor Tongzhi here in 1856 when she was promoted to Concubine Yi. In 1884, the Empress Dowager Cixi moved her residence to the palace in celebration of her 50th birthday. The inscriptions on the walls at the conrridor in the yard are the poems praying for the Empress Dowager's longevity. "
" Li Jing Xuan (Pavilion of Beautiful Scenery), situated at the back of Chu Xiu Gong, was built in 1535. When Cixi was a concubine, she once lived here and gave birth to the Emperor Tongzhi. In this pavilion there is a small exquisite stage. Empress Dowager Cixi sat on the imperial bed opposite the stage to enjoy the performance of theatrical troupe at her leisure. "
