Haigherloch Castle we could see high up overlooking the town of Haigerloch. Where to park the Car and how to reach the Castle?
We drove along the Unterstadt valley road in town and managed to find a car- parking area, so we parked there and I went back to where I saw a path heading up the steep hill.
Yes, it was the path to the Castle, and it WAS STEEP!
This Castle was built around 1200 by the Counts of Hohenberg. Count Christoph of Hohenzollern - Haigerloch rebuilt the castle into a Renaissance Castle between 1580 to 1588. Most of these Courtyard buildings remain from his time. These include the tithe barn, Hofkaplanei, upper Vogtship with stables, and the residential building of the Chateau.
In 1975, the Castle was bought by a local Entrepreneur who renovated and restored the Castle to its former glory. It is now used as a Centre for Congress, creativity and communication with Hotel and restaurant, shops and galleries.
After climbing the Hill to see the Castle, I found there was a road, so we could have driven to the top instead of walking....Oh well, I needed the excercise when on holiday!
The road was a little hard to find.
Here is how to find it...... As you head out of Town on the L410, turn left into Seehof road, and then turn left into Schloss strabe, and this will take you to the Castle.
