"Theatre Royal Haymarket" England Things to Do Tip by Moirads

England Things to Do: 566 reviews and 888 photos

The Haymarket Theatre has been going since 1720 making it London's second oldest working theatre.

I was accordingly blown away by the age and the history of this English theatre. Like so many modern theatres the Haymarket started life cash strapped and needing to lure audiences in droves so that it could survive. Survive it did.

We managed to see a series of Shakespearean soliloquies on the evening we were there, sadly fairly dull fare, although nicely performed. It was the joy of being in this historic theatre more than the production which made the event memorable for me.

Because I know so many people in the theatre world in Johannesburg it was quite novel not to know the front of house staff and several patrons.
