"How to get around Sri Lanka" Sri Lanka Transportation Tip by earthflyer

Sri Lanka Transportation: 198 reviews and 207 photos

I found the best way to get around Sri Lanka is to hire a car/driver, it will take the hassle out of the trip and you can stop off anywhere you like if you suddenly see something that cathes your eye. The cost will depend on where you want to go and who long you want to hire him.

Most people arrange this in Negombo since it is the nearest place to the Airport. I had a driver for about 8 days and he took me to the following places:

Chilaw
Anuradhapura
Mihintale
Habarana
Polonnaruwa
Sigiriya
Dambulla
Kandy
Nuwara Eliya
Hatton
Adams Peak
Tangella

From Tangella I made my own way up the coast to Galle, Hikkaduwa, Colombo and back to Negombo.

My driver was a brilliant chap who is proberly retired by now, but he was a great laugh who enjoyed his Arrack whiskey. We had some good drinking nights together.
