The Gong ride goes from Sydney Park at St. Peters, an inner suburb, all the way to the southern city of Wollongong. Total distance is around 90 kms and each year 10,000 people join in for the event. I say that number confidently because the number is limited. The event is so popular that it's not advertised and they always have more enquiries than places.
The course has changed over the years but the distance hasn't.
It's well organized generally and police protected all the way with heaps of rest stops.
Many of the people who ride the event have obviously never tried that distance in their lives and are ill equipped to do such deeds. Others are fully trained up and not only go all the way there but ride back as well!
It takes place on the first weekend in November.

Equipment: Make sure your bike is well prepared; have pre ride maintenance done and make sure you take sufficient fluids or frequently stop en route to top up.
You should have ridden at least two thirds the distance in a single training ride before you attempt the event.
