First of all, this is not located in Cebu City but is found in Lapu-lapu City although in the Province of Cebu. The shrine was built in honor of Lapulapu, then chieftain of Mactan who repulsed the Spaniards led by Ferdinand Magellan. Ironically, he is the first hero of the country whose name was given by the person he killed, Ferdinand Magellan. Lapu-lapu also holds the distinction of being the hero found in the now demonetized 1 centavo coin. I guess it's probably because he is the 1st hero.

So if Lapulapu killed Magellan, who killed Lapulapu? And don't tell me it's the fishermen...

Address: Punta Engano, Mactan Island
