  Prime Minister
by Donna_in_India

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) is located with other Minister's offices (including the Ministry of Defense) in a building on South Block on Raisina Hill. South Block along with North Block are the two secretariat blocks that flank the President's Residence.

The PMO is headed by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The very important anti-corruption unit and the public wing that deals with grievances are located in the PMO as well as the Cabinet Room where Dr. Singh presides over Cabinet meetings.

The building itself was designed by Herbert Baker who used Mughal, Rajasthani, and European architectural styles to create both the South Block and North Block buildings. It was completed in 1929. The beautiful buildings are made of red sandstone and you'll find domes, pillared corridors, arched gateways, and latticed screens in both buildings. Those are typcial features found in Mughal buildings.

There is tight security around this building. If you'd like to visit inside South Block, you'll need prior permission from the concerned authorities (and, likely, a very good reason!).
