Le Gavroche: "Le Gavroche" Le Gavroche Tip by Maria81
Le Gavroche, London: 3 reviews and 0 photos
Michelin-starred (currently boasting 2 stars), Le Gavroche was the venue we chose for my 30th birthday dinner. We did not have any problems to book (even though finding a place to dine at in London on a Thursday night is often less than straightforward) - but we were booking for a party of 10, so that might have helped. The restaurant certainly was full on the night, so try to book in advance - a couple of weeks would do, of you're particular about date/time.
Food and wine are excellent, even if a little bit on the heavy side. A lot of duck features (foie gras alone can be ordered in 4 forms), but there is sea food and vegetarian dishes are on the menu as well. Dishes are imaginative (e.g., artichoke stuffed with foie gras) and beautifully presented.
Wine list is long, and features mostly French wines (of which there are a couple of pages for each region), although there were also Italian and Spanish ones on offer. If you fancy a drink before your meal, there is also a very good bar on the ground floor (the restaurant itself is on the lower ground floor) - Bellini cocktails were excellent.
Keep in mind:
- The place is expensive. Starters and desserts are 25-35GBP, mains 45-60GBP, and wines are 100+GBP.
- Men are required to wear a jacket at all times. Jeans are ok as long as they are not too scruffy, but no trainers.
Favorite Dish: For me, the Omelette Rothschild (an apricot dessert), and the veal.
