When I was in Bavaria's Pfaffenwinkel, the region with the highest density of Rococo and Baroque churches, it was early October (2011) and Thanksgiving celebrations were ongoing. The altar parts of Wies church and Steingaden?s church were fully decorated. Beautiful crowns made of straw were standing there and the full basket of fruit and food was lying in front of the altar. I am sure that these were put together by the kids with help of their parents and teachers. When I was visiting Steingaden?s church suddenly a group of little kids with adults arrived. They were grouping around the altar, one of the adults had a guitar and all were singing Thanksgiving songs. Cute.
Very touching work and very typical for this so much solidly grounded religious farmland region.
