Vasa Things to Do: 3 reviews and 15 photos
Upon entering the village of Vasa on the left hand side one can see the very old chapel of Saint Georgios a structure of Byzantine type. (14th century)
There are some admirable frescos on the walls, dated back to the 15th century and among others there is the Mother of Saint George, Saint Polychronia. On one wall there is the fresco showing Saint George on horseback killing the dragon. Another fresco shows Jesus nailed down from the cross (apokathilosi) but there are many more.
For the locals here, tradition says that in the old times when it was a monastery, people compared it with the Holy Lavra, -the monastery in Kalavryta in Achaea in Greece. For them it was their Small Lavra (Mikri Lavra) of the 14th century!
On Easter Monday the 23rd April and the 3rd November the village celebrates here with a fair and a divine Service.
