Útskálar church and graveyard are mid-between Garđskagaviti light-house and Garđur village. It used to be one of the biggest manors in this area in the early days.

Útskálar used to be one of the oldest vicarage in Iceland. Útskálakirkja church was dedicated to apostle Paul and Bishop Ţorlákur, but the current church dates back to 1861.

There is a beautiful house next to the church, a vicarage which dates back to 1889.

When you visit Útskálar now, it is hard to imagine that this was such an important vicarage - in the older days 9 smallholdings belonged to Útskálar.

There is a grave-yard by the church, and I remember reading that there is a rune-stone there - I wonder if they were talking about the stone on my last photo?

Address: The Cultural center at Útskálar, 250 Garđi
Directions: Mid way between Garđur and Garđskagaviti light-house.

Another lovely church! Is that a Viking's grave in your third photo?

It is an old grave, but not a Viking grave. We have found very few Viking graves here in Iceland.
