  Bigfork Historic District

Favorite thing: Bigfork is a tiny town with under 500 residents located in Northern Minnesota. It is part of Itasca County and is on Minnesota Route 38. Bigfork was started by Damase "Uncle Tom" Neveaux who built a log cabin on the Big Fork River and began logging activities. Although Neveaux reached the area in 1887, and the settlement began in 1892, officially, he was a squatter until the land was opened for settlement in 1900. Today Bigfork is just a tiny spot along the road. It has a small but proud historic district with a few buildings of historic and/or architectural interest. Bigfork is near Scenic State Park and not too far from Voyageurs National Park.
