Favorite thing: Tulane University of Louisiana is located on St. Charles Avenue, adjacent to Loyola University and across the street from Audubon Park. The beautiful 110 acre campus is covered in live oaks, and fantastic historic architecture. The school has established itself as one of the best in the country, as it is one of 59 schools in the U.S. accredited with the prestigious Association of American Universities.

Athletically, Tulane is a member of Conference USA and its athletes participate in Division I, the highest level of collegiate sports. Tulane's football program was established in 1893, and had success in its past, finishing as high as fifth in the nation and winning 9 conference titles. While Tulane finished 7th in the country in 1998, this has been their only ranked season finish since 1973. Tulane's football team shares the Superdome with the New Orleans Saints, but it used to play at 80,000 seat Tulane Stadium, which hosted three NFL Super Bowls.

Tulane was founded in 1834 as a public medical college and became a university in 1847. When founded, it was just the second medical school in the South of the US. The University struggled financially after the Civil War until a donation by local business Paul Tulane allowed for the establishment of an endowment, then in 1884, it became the first and only American university to begin public, then go private. In 1894, the University moved to its present location on St. Charles Avenue in the Garden District, five miles from downtown New Orleans.
