"Ships, boats, everything that..." Venice Transportation Tip by barcodex

Venice Transportation: 679 reviews and 956 photos

Ships, boats, everything that moves on the surface of water - this is the main way of transportation to, from, and inside Venice. In 1840s, railway bridge was built to connect Venice with main land. Bridge for automobiles was opened in 1933. But still most tourist come to city by ships. I guess it is because two bridges are not enough to handle all traffic, while tourist produce big part of it. As you can see on a picture, I also get to Venice on the open deck of one of the ships.
Gondoles are chic, I guess local people do not use them for getting around Venice (except gondoliers, of course). But boats of any kind could be visible all around the city. And of course, using your feet is not a stupid idea at all, since the total area of Venice islands is just greater than 7 sq.km...
