The origin of the village of Tecklenburg can be traced from as long ago as the 12th century, turning it into one of the most ancient villages of the region. There are many different ancient spots to explore within this town, as well as the general appearance of it is rewarding by itself due to its charming half-timbered houses and medieval ruin. A lot has changed since the old times, but still some is presented in the same way as many hundred years ago. Tecklenburg does have a rich cultural heritage, has long traditions and customs that are kept alive.
One of the buildings which strikes the eye immediately is the Late Baroque Parish Church: Stadtkirche Tecklenburg (1562 ? 1566). The church was initially equipped with a small belfry. In 1642 they created a temporary timber wall for the main tower beside the church bells. The massive baroque tower, now widely seen as a landmark for Tecklenburg, dates from the years 1710 - 1718. Even when you arrive at the church from the backside and not the front you'll see that the mighty 210 years old church tower of the Parish Church of Tecklenburg ranks among the other buildings in the village.
Address: Kirchpfad 1, 49545 Tecklenburg.
