H.C.Andersen's Childhood Home (H.C.Andersens Barndomshjem ) is just the small house where Andersen spent his childhood. Actually what we saw was a building that is a replica of the original one.
If you visit the H.C.Andersen museum first you will be disappointed here, there are only two small rooms with some information and drawing but you cant really spend a lot of time here although I found it interesting to see where small Hans was spending his time as a child. By the way -just to imagine how small it is- the original building was only 17 square meters, with a sitting room, a kitchen and a small hallway.
The museum opened in 1931 and due to the small space they used another room (actually the area that small hallway connects with the house) as part of the museum. We werent expecting to see unfurnished rooms though, ok the house is full of memories but we felt disappointed about that but we tried to read every not, small poem or other words on the wall’s collection so to feel a bit better :)
Pic 5 shows another building that is related to Andersen, it’s probably the one that he was born at.
It is open Tuesday to Sunday 10-16.00
The entrance fee is 25DKK or free with the City Pass (also free for those under 17)
