  • The Funen Village - Odense

Funen Village(Den Fynske Landsby) is an open air museum that represents a typical village environment from 19th century. It opened to the public right after WWII and houses numerous rural buildings, half-timbered buildings, a village pond and some farm animals. First we saw a small video introduction (15’ long) at the Visitors Centre about life during the 19th century and then we walked into the village (they give you a small map for free but it’s not big to get lost anyway)
During the summer months they have a lot of activities, usually traditional agriculture etc but during our visit most of the visitors (especially those with kids) were packed in the theatre watching a play for kids.

We walked a bit around, there are some really picturesque corners but we felt disappointed of the general area, ok the buildings cover a long period (17th to 19th century), there are recreated buildings from villages all over Fyn island but we were expecting to see more than the usual although if it’s the first of its kind that you visit you may like the mill, the black smith, the small church etc The people that do demonstrations seem to be bored under the sun too :)

Although you can easily walk everywhere you may want to try the horse carriage rides
