"VISIT THE SITE OF THE WELCOME STARNGER" Dunolly Things to Do Tip by DennyP

Dunolly Things to Do: 1 reviews and 0 photos

While following the "gold trail" through Victoria this was a must see town...not only for the Icon pub here but this is where the biggest gold nugget in the world The town of Dunolly was named after a Scottish farmer that took up residence here in 1845 and named the town after a castle in his hometown in Scotland..

The discovery of gold here in 1869 and the finding of the largest gold nugget ever found put this little outback Victorian town on the map very quickly..The "Welcome Stranger" as the nugget was named weighed in at a massive 64 kilogrammes and its discovery 13 kilometers north of the town created a mad rush ..There is a monument located on the spot where this amazing nugget was found..

Address: located 195 klms north west of Melbourne..
Directions: There is a lovely old building being the Courthouse on Market Street is an information centre..
