"Soglio - Palazzo Salis" Soglio Things to Do Tip by german_eagle
Soglio Things to Do: 10 reviews and 40 photos
The only "must see" in Soglio is IMO Palazzo Salis, a hotel with tradition since 1878. Strictly spoken it is the Casa Battista, one of the five palazzi that the Salis family built in Soglio, all of them located on the northern edge of Soglio, in front of it the only place in the village that deserves to be called a square.
Casa Battista was built 1650 and renovated 1701. On the ground floor is the large vaulted entrance room with a small exhibit on the history of the building and the Salis family (free, pic 2), to the right and left restaurant rooms. You might sneak upstairs to the large, two-storey hall (pic 3), which is meant to be accessed by hotel guests only, but as long as you don't get caught ...
The highlight for me is a visit of their beautiful formal garden in the back. They have all sorts of blooming subtropical plants there and even sequoias. A part of the garden is reserved for hotel guests, though, another part is restaurant zone.
