"Soglio" Soglio Things to Do Tip by german_eagle
Soglio Things to Do: 10 reviews and 40 photos
The best known tourist spot in the Bregaglia valley is the small village Soglio. As said in the intro to this page it nestles on a sunny terrace high above the valley floor at an elevation of about 1,100 m. The view of the rugged granite peaks on the opposite side of the valley from Soglio is breathtaking. Even more beautiful - and a popular calendar motif - is the view from above Soglio (pic 3) because of the picturesque townscape with the uniform (but not boring!) granite roofs and the church steeple as landmark.
Soglio doesn't have any tourist attractions in the usual meaning. It's just a tiny village, picturesque and unspoilt, where you can feel the ambience of past centuries - except if it's peak season and the tourists flock into the village in crowds. But don't worry, they mostly move from the bus stop/car parking straight to Palazzo Salis and back - you have the narrow side alleys all for yourself.
It's best to just stroll through the village and get lost. Eventually you'll find the covered well at the western edge of Soglio, or a small art gallery closer to Palazzo Salis which may be open or not (free entrance). Or find a small shop that sells goat cheese, chestnut (marroni) jam. The church's architecture is not particularly exciting, the highlight is the view from the churchyard that is cemetery also.
