Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción is a large Neo-gothic church standing on the west side of Parque Calderon. It is often referred to as the New Cathedral as the Old Cathedral is standing on the opposite side of the square. In 1885 construction of the cathedral was begun, but it was not until 1967 that it was completed.
The cathedral has got a façade made of marble and alabaster, and on the roof there are some blue domes that can be seen from many places in Cuenca. The bell towers are not so tall, however they were planed to be higher but because of a miscalculation they could not be higher as the foundation would not be strong enough to bear taller towers.
Inside there are stained glass windows, a large gold alter, a pink marble floor and many religious statues. And there is place for around 10 000 visitors.
Outside the cathedral there are several vendors selling religious souvenirs and candles to lit in the church.
