"Musée du Louvre - The most famous smile." Louvre Tip by Jerelis
Louvre, Paris: 796 reviews and 1,585 photos
Spanning eight thematic departments and 35,000 pieces of artwork dating from the antiquity to the early modern period, the Louvre's permanent collection includes masterpieces by European masters such as Da Vinci, Delacroix, Vermeer, and Rubens, as well as unsurpassed Greco-Roman, Egyptian, or Islamic arts collections. Frequent temporary exhibits often highlight particular artists or movements, and are almost always worthwhile.
Of course the Louvre's most famous inhabitant is Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece," La Gioconda", better known as "Mona Lisa": even the most anti-museum travellers will be eager to see this painting. I did wonder, though, why people are thronging around this particular masterpiece ... when, just a few halls away, a very beautiful and similar painting, also by Leonardo, scarcely attracts a passing glance. Well, never mind I guess, La Gioconda was Leonardo's favorite painting and I will always remember that I have seen that famous smile!
