"DOMINICAN MONASTERY & CHURCH" Uhersky Brod Things to Do Tip by balhannah
Uhersky Brod Things to Do: 4 reviews and 9 photos
The Dominican church and monastery is one of the largest and oldest historical sites in Uhersko Brodsky region.
Around about the year 1260, the Dominican's arrived and built a Monastery, Church and Convent in Uhersky Brod. Then, in the 1420’s, the Dominicans had to leave the monastery, returning after the Hussite War's. This was repeated many times, and at some time, the building's were destroyed by fire.
It was 1659 when work started on converting the Church to baroque, financed by the Countess Eleonora Kounicova.
The church of the Assumption of Our Virgin Mary has three-aisle's and two new towers since its conversion and the Monastery Convent is still attached to the church.
A pity it wasn't open as it reads....
"The interior of the church is very impressive due to its Baroque decorations as well
as its spaciousness, which is enhanced by spatial illusions typical
of the Baroque."
I also read......
"The painting of the Black Madonna deep in legends, which has been the object of devotion for believers since medieval times is in the Church"
I hope it is open when you come!
