"The Wang Church" Karpacz Things to Do Tip by GeoV

The Wang Church is a 12th century Norwegian stave church, moved here in the 1840s. It had become redundant in its original location, Vang in the Valdres region - where a number of similar churches still exist - and was due for demolition. The re-erected church clearly required a good deal of renovation and timber replacement - not unusual in churches remaining in Norway either - but still has many typical original features such as doorways and capitals. In fact, its overall appearance is fairly close to that of some of the better known Norwegian churches like Borgund or Hopperstad, (although they retain more original features). It's a matter of opinion whether it looks out of place in Karpacz or whether the landscape is sufficiently similar to Valdres for it to fit in quite well. It still functions as a Lutheran church.
