It has to be said that the Parisians do railways stations very well ... so well, in fact, that they even saw fit to convert one into an art museum! :) By comparison, I think of the vile coloured brick facade of Kings Cross station in London (reminiscent of the colour of baby poo) and want to weep!

Now, I'm not advocating that you make a dedicated trip to the deepest, darkest 10th arondissement just to have a look at this railway station, but if you're in the vicinity - perchance to visit Canal St Martin, which is how I found myself in the area - it's well worth a detour.

What I am so enchanted by is the balance between aesthetics and functionality - the link to rail transport (one of my great passions) is purely incidental! The honey coloured stone is gorgeous, proportions are well balanced, and that arched window - well, it's just beautiful.
