"Sleepbootdagen - Celebrating maritime heritage." Zwartsluis Local Custom Tip by Jerelis

The Nationale Sleepbootdagen in Zwartsluis is a festival where tugboats return to the historic harbor of Zwartsluis for three days of entertainment, food, art, history, and a fair welcome to the summer. Vintage, working and retired tugboats are moored at the Handelskade in Zwartsluis, right in front of the building where I work at. To me this means a couple of days of beautiful views at the harbor and in the meanwhile meeting some very interesting people.
Many of the historic tugboats are open for tour on saturday of the festival. This is really great to do and do ask some questions to the owners of the boats, because they are all extremely proad of their boats and are very, very willing to tell you alle about it. Be on hand at noon sunday as the tugs leave shore to participate in the Harbor Days Tugboat Races, out in the deep channel of the Zwartewater. So it's quite clear that the Nationale Sleepbootdagen are a celebration of the maritime heritage and is a huge gathering of tugboaters and a small showing of artists along the banks of the village of Zwartsluis.
