"To appreciate the gardens of Paris, just look up!" Paris Off The Beaten Path Tip by CatherineReichardt
Paris Off The Beaten Path: 1,968 reviews and 4,171 photos
As you might expect in a city as densely populated as Paris, space is in very short supply, and there is only space for a very few private gardens. Paris has some lovely public parks, but for the people living in the central arondissements, having their own private garden is out of the question.
Nonetheless, lack of space is not enough to deter some people's gardening instincts, and Parisians have become very adept at 'containerised' planting. Balconies are adorned with planters - perpetuating the great French love affair with scarlet geraniums and herbs - and if you look up, you can often catch a glimpse of room gardens, which must be delightful refuges to retreat to a hot summer evening.
