by balhannah

The Gloriette was a residential Tower built in 1278, on the smallest of the two islands. It was named after Queen Eleanor who was the wife of Edward 1.

A Gloriette was a Medieval summerhouse, used by the ladies to take a meal while watching a hunt or something else.
Queen's who where at Leeds Castle, and would have used this building were.
Queen Isabella, Anne of Bohemia, Joan of Navarre, Catherine de Valois and Katherine of Aragon.

No wonder the Castle is known as the "Ladies Castle."
