      Sand sledding in White Sands!

White Sands is located near Alamagordo, New Mexico in the southern part of the state. It's about 3 hour drive from Albuquerque. Up until I had went there, I always thought the white sands were caused by the first ever atomic bomb that was set off in 1945. It actually is comprised of gypsum from a long dry lake bed. Overtime, the gypsum, which would flow out into an ocean, had no way of escaping and settled here in the basin which is now White Sands. It's an attraction that's unique to our state. Boyz II Men even shot a video here back in the 1990's. There's an area of the sands that has benches and canopies to rest and even barbecue grills. There's a little nature trail that runs along the southern part of the sands. You can even sand sled here! It costs about 15 bucks for the sled and you can keep it. You're supplied with some wax so you can lubricate the bottom of the sled to sled down more easily. Be warned! It's hot out here even in September, which is when I went. The white sands are really bright and reflect easily. So please bring your sunglasses and sunscreen! It's definitely a day trip, so leave early!
