Balmoral Hotel: "Luxury and Location in Edinburgh" Scotland Hotel Tip by letscruise

We only had 2 days to explore Edinburgh, so we wanted to stay someplace special and in a good location to see most of the city by foot. The Balmoral definitely fit the bill! Our standard room had plenty of room, the furnishings were outstanding, and the bed was very comfortable. Our room didn't have much of a view (I assumed the view rooms would cost much more at this expensive hotel), but it was very quiet since it was facing into the interior courtyard.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating everywhere we went. The doormen, concierge, and front desk staff... exceptional service and hospitality as one might expect from a hotel of this class but doesn't often get.

The location right on Princes Street, practically in the shadow of Calton Hill, between the Old Town and New Town, was a great starting point for our self-guided walking tours and for walking to restaurants.

A tip: We had a car and parked it around the corner at the shopping plaza on Leith Street, about 2 or 3 blocks from the hotel. I expected it to be around 8 GBP/day but it turned out to be 20 GBP/day. Even so, we saved a bit of money by not using the hotel valet parking. Other area lots may be cheaper...

Unique Qualities: I want to make particular mention of the Hotel Balmoral Bar. The bartenders are true professionals and know how to make a perfect martini or any other cocktail you wish to order. We only had 2 nights, but we visited this bar 4 times -- before and after dinner each night. A martini is a simple drink but so easy to screw up, and often is. These guys know how to do it right! Other drinks as well. We sat at the bar each visit just so we could watch the masters at work.
