La Cubanita Bar&Dinner: "Try the Cuban cuisine in Sofia!" Sofia Restaurant Tip by Ivo_K

Sofia Restaurants: 209 reviews and 412 photos

This restaurant was opened in May 2010 and is working everyday from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m. (only on Sundays it opens later - at 10 a.m.). Cuban cuisine is still quite unknown in Bulgaria despite the achieving bigger popularity recently Cuban music and alcohol cocktails (daiquiri and the mojito as most famous - both cocktails made with lime juice and pure cane rum). "The unique Cuban restaurant" as their advertising is and the restaurant menu says is apparently aiming to fill this cuisine niche in Sofia. The result is questionable - interior that is trying to revive the decadent spirit of colonial Havana but somehow mixed with cluttered kitsch and an atmosphere more of a neighborhood restaurant.
The menu covers everything from salads and soups to pastas and pizzas - all the dishes are illustrated with pictures. Cuban dishes selected by the Cuban Chef Carlos Gonzalez, are just one page, which unfortunately is the only one without illustrations! The chicken prepared by a Cuban recipe resembles a large schnitzel, but served with fried bananas. You have to try the beef steak with beans, rice and garlic - it is really delicious. Quite interesting is also the dessert "grapefruit de Cuba" - peeled grapefruit, boiled with sugar syrup and coated in a light scent of anise.
However, if the associations that Cuba raises are mostly rum, cocktails and cigars - they could be found there in generous quantities (there is even a separate cigar lounge), a nice addition for the warmer months is the garden of the house. The prices are a little bit above average, the staff is kind, but the service is slow. There is a nearby parking between the block of flats where you could park you car.
During the entire month of September they have activities like Cuban night "Taste of Cuba" each Tuesday, Retro Disco party each Thursday and Latino party each Friday. Usually on Saturdays they have some famous local musicians singing and playing there.
I do recommend the venue as something different that you could experience in Sofia!
