"Language Barriers" Manchester Warnings Or Dangers Tip by Pomocub

Manchester Warnings and Dangers: 40 reviews and 12 photos

This is not just for Manchester but something that foreign travellers should bear in mind when travelling across the UK. English people tend not to be able to speak other languages. In school we get caught either French, German or Spanish and language is something that a lot of English people do not continue with after school as they don't see it as important.

I would always recommend taking a phrase book or a guide book with you. If you go on tourist buses then there should be multilingual guides.

In Manchester in particular there are many Jewish, Asian, Ukrainian, Afro-Carribean and Polish communities, in those communities you will find native speakers of those languages who will be able to assist you.

Mancunians are always willing to help you if you find yourself lost, they just may not be able to communicate with you in your own language.
