Zgornja Radovna Things to Do: 3 reviews and 15 photos
This peak is reached by trail from the Radovna-Mojstrana road. There is a small sign, but it is up on a tree a bit away from the road and is easy to miss. If you are coming from Mojstrana, it is about 100 meters up from the National Park sign. There is a small parking area along the west side of the road with room for 3-4 cars - the trailhead is up higher on the opposite side about 20 meters. From Radovna, you have to keep a close eye out as you descend for the trail and the little car park.
The trail is a regular Slovene trail. You gain ground quickly - maybe a 30% grade. Switchbacks are things that people have not much use for in this country. Trekking poles are very good things to use going both up and down. The way can be broken into thirds. At the end of the first interminable uphill section are a couple of benches and a nice view out over Dovje and the Karawanke peaks rising above. The next section continues ever steeply until you reach the Me?akla Plateau at the Tilčev rovt. Another bench is found here in front of a monument to local partizans, who operated out of the Me?akla - the plateau reaches from here to Jesenice in the east - during WWII against the German occupiers. Reaching the monument also gives you a little level walking for about the first time and after a short while you continue along a rough road for a quick bit. Now, for the last bit. As the road goes around a curve, the trail takes off to the right going up steeply for another 15-20 minutes until you finally emerge onto a grassy summit. Reward time for all of that sweat. You have an awesome view of Triglav and its three eastern glacial valleys - Krma, Kot and Vrata. To the east lie the hills around Bled and the high Karawanke with Stol. Far to the east is Grintovec. A clear day will keep you up here savoring for a long time. There is a small bivouac hut on the summit in case you stay too long. Soak up the views because straight up also means straight down!
