Mycenae is one of the famous archaeological site in Peloponnese area. The name is evocative of the greek history and it is well worth a visit.
Beside the famous lion gate and the impressive walls there are not much still standing, but you can see the perimeter of all the buildings and with a good guidebook you can easily understand the layout of the town and how it was organized.
I found very interesting the underground water cistern, I read about it on my guide and I put a flashlight in my car just to visit it, but I didnt remember to bring it! stupid... so I could walk only a few step down before being completely surrounded by darkness.. don't copy me, remember your flashlight!!
The museum has a good collection and informative board.
The entrance fee is 8 Euros and it include the nearby site called Atreus' treasury (more about it here).
There are different parking lots near the site, try the closest one first, you will have to climb enough to visit the site :-). Bathroom are by the museum entrance.
In the summer bring water with you, there is no shade around the site and it can get pretty hot.

Directions: It is about one hour driving from Corinth going south and 40 minutes from Nauplion going north. It is well signaled from the main road.
