"Monastery of Saint Claire The Old" Coimbra Tourist Trap Tip by Clarissa11

Coimbra Tourist Traps: 3 reviews and 7 photos

If you are visiting Coimbra then I advise you to pay a visit to this wonderful and historic monastery which you will find situated on the left bank of the River Mondego. Built in the late 13th Century this historical monastery was under constant attack of regular flooding from the River Mondego and in the 17th century had to be abandoned. And only just in 2008 was the Monastery opened to the public with complete and full restoration

This space is open to the city and hosts arts and cultural events.

Unique Suggestions: If you want to find the Monastery of Saint Claire The Old and you are in the heart on downtown Coimbra (Largo da Portagem), just pass the Santa Clara Bridge until you are on a balcony face to face with the old Monastery. Then you can take a left accross the wooden walk way until you find yourself the carpark of the monastery and it is here that you will find the Entrance.
Now that you are inside just make your way up the ramp until you come to the main entrance of the Museum
