"Hansestadt Rostock" Germany Things to Do Tip by ant1606

The city of Rostock played an important part as part of the Hanseatic League trade system and suffered major destruction during WWII but many original building still survive. Restoration, reconstruction and development made it become GDR's main seaport.
The ambience in the city center reminds more of a shopping district than that of an ancient city, with Kröpeliner Strasse at its core where "junk" food lovers may find the ubiquitous international restaurants. Nice buildings and a large modern fountain with bronze statues.
Popular beaches and establishments are in Warnemünde a few miles to the north, the actual seaport location with ferry departures to sail the Baltic waters. We crossed to Gedser, Denmark, in 2 1/2 hours.
