"Farmhouse Accommodation" Iceland Hotel Tip by Krumel

Iceland Hotels: 200 reviews and 277 photos

For the tour around Iceland's Ring Road we had booked our accommodation as part of a self-drive package with Icelandic Farm Holidays. Many of the places that we stayed in where very different in character, and we enjoyed this variety. Some were working farms, where the farmer's wife would lay an ample table in the kitchen in the morning, others were dedicated guesthouses with buffet-style breakfasts. Some farms also offered cooked dinners.

One negative point to note though is that some of the accommodations we had picked had been substituted for another farm in the same area, and of at least the same category or even higher. We just would have preferred to be informed of these changes upfront, as we only found out about them when we received our voucher booklet in Reykjavik. For example, we had picked a horse farm for a two-night stay, and were rather disappointed to find out that we were not going to be staying on that particular farm, after all.
