PETRONAS towers are currently the third tallest free standing structure in the world. When conceived they were number one but alas, no more ? other oil producers have decided to declare their supremacy more forcefully. This does not alter the common thread though - money buying somebody else?s expertise to produce something in foreign style to express a statement of pride in plagiaristic ways. This unfortunate detail aside, one has the opportunity to enjoy the rapid change of atmospheric pressure in an environment completely different from the skyscraper jungle of Manhattan or the shores of the Michigan Lake. The vision includes a circle of high-rises surrounding the twin towers and helping to eco mosque chants by reverberating off the glass walls of the buildings. Fortunately for the people with perfect pitch and some language exposure, the singing is of exceptional quality matching totally the quality of workmanship expressed in the towers. On the more mundane side, and for the entertainment of the masses, the towers are engulfed in a shopping area which can officially be declared a Mecca of sorts. It seems to be more of a pilgrimage site than a shopping venue because the masses are just circling in its corridors and almost never venture inside. Apparently, the glitzy set up is attractive but too expensive for the ordinary folks brought in on organised tours from other parts of the country. Amongst the groups to visit on this particular day was one that had announced on the windshield of the bus that this is the Qoranique generation and yes, indeed, they looked it. So, no too much shopping for them either!
