"Notre Dame de Paris - On the Île de la Cité." Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris Tip by Jerelis

It's always a great pleasure to learn while you're travelling. One of the things I learned by our visit to Paris and the Notre Dame de Paris in particular is the fact that it is situated on an island! This island is called the Île de la Cité and is one of two natural islands in the river Seine within the city of Paris (the other being the Île Saint-Louis). It is the centre of Paris and the location where the medieval city was refounded.
Three medieval buildings remain on the Île de la Cité:
Fisrt of all the Louis IX's Sainte-Chapelle built in 1245. Close to that building the Conciergerie Prison, where Marie Antoinette awaited execution in 1793. And last but not least the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris, built from 1163.
Because we arrived by the Paris Métro we never witnessed the fact we arrived on a island, but an walk around the Notre Dame de Paris gave us that impression and just asking around confirmed that impression.
